THE CONTIGUOUS EARTH (WORK IN PROGRESS)

The Contiguous Earth is a 14-channel interactive video installation funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and will be completed in 2022.

The installation will depict human and celestial activity in 14 sites across North and South America. Each of these sites are aligned vertically along the 70th meridian west, and each is separated by a distance of 10° latitude. In each site, a camera will point due east and take one photograph per minute every day for 365 days. The cameras will collectively track the patterns and impact of the sun, seasons, and weather on both the local geography and the human activity at each site.

Installation users will be able to manipulate the selection and playback parameters of the images in the database ultimately choosing their own trajectories through time across the globe.
